The Professional Center of the Green and the Cantonal Agricultural Company of Mezzana celebrate the 110th anniversary with a series of events and activities open to the public. After the official ceremony on Friday, May 23, the weekend of May 24 and 25 will be dedicated to two days of open doors, with practical demonstrations, meetings, and initiatives aimed at families, young people, and the curious.

The initiative is organized in collaboration with various local entities, such as Millestrade, the City of Trades of Italian Switzerland, and the Agriculture Section, and aims to make known the numerous training and professional opportunities in the world of greenery.

Green as a profession: school, innovation, and passion

Today more than ever, the green sector represents a dynamic and promising field. Mezzana, with its CPV and the AAC, confirms itself as a reference point for those who wish to undertake an agricultural, botanical, or forestry education.

It is not only the contact with nature that attracts more and more young people to these careers: the growing integration of technologies and innovations make these professions even more interesting and accessible. This is demonstrated by the participation of eight classes from the elementary schools of Balerna and Chiasso, who on Friday will be involved in workshops dedicated to breeding, beekeeping, dairy, botany, and forestry.

At the same time, the CPV will offer specific conferences on phytoprotection and new technologies aimed at students and professionals in the sector.

Friday evening: the official ceremony with authorities and guests of honor

The institutional moment will take place on the evening of Friday, May 23, by invitation, with the participation of important political and academic representatives:

  • Ignazio Cassis, Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Marina Carobbio Guscetti, State Councillor and Director of DECS
  • Christian Vitta, State Councillor and Director of DFE
  • Daniele Maffei, Director of the Cantonal Agricultural Company
  • Michele Fürst, Director of the Professional Center of the Green

Open doors on May 24 and 25: a weekend to discover the world of greenery

On Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, the doors of the CPV and the AAC open to everyone. The proposed activities will allow to interact directly with apprentice boys and girls working in the fields of agriculture, gardening, forestry, horticulture, and floriculture. Honored guests will also be the Ticino teams of landscape gardeners who will participate in the SwissSkills 2025 in Bern.

The Specialized Higher School of Hotel Management and Tourism of Bellinzona will also take part in the event, enriching the offer with training and practical proposals related to sustainable tourism.

Numerous thematic associations will animate the exhibition spaces with products, demonstrations, and activities related to beekeeping, fruit growing, cultivation of vegetable plants, and garden care.

A weekend among nature, wine, and sustainable agriculture

During the weekend, the Cantonal Agricultural Company will also participate in the event "Open Cellars", which will take place simultaneously in the Sottoceneri region. An additional opportunity for visitors to combine the educational experience with a walk among the gastronomic excellences of the area.

The Agriculture Section will be present with an informative stand of the Phytosanitary Service and the Agricultural Consulting Office, where the Sustainable Viticulture Project Ticino (ViSo) will be presented.
