If you think that cars are more modern in Ticino... You're right! According to data collected by AXA at the end of 2024, cars circulating in the canton are on average 8.9 years, making them the newest in all of Switzerland.
For comparison, in the canton of Bern – at the bottom of the ranking – cars have an average age higher than over two years.
Looking at the wallet, the canton Zug stands out for the expensive cars, with an average price of 67,000 francs, That is 35% more than the Swiss average, which is 50,100 francs. In Ticino, cars cost an average of 47,700 francs, while the cantons of Jura and Neuchâtel have the least expensive cars.
In the last five years, the average cost of cars has risen significantly: in 2019 it was around 44,000 francs, today we are above 50,000 francs, with an increase of 14%.

According to AXA's Jérôme Pahud, this is a sign of the growing presence of SUVs and electric cars, which weigh more mainly because of the batteries.
In Ticino, on the other hand, lighter and more compact cars, with an average of 1500 kg – as well as in Neuchâtel and the Jura.
